Testing, Testing, 1 2 3

Testing, Testing, 1 2 3

I can never hear enough good business advice.  I love to hear it and I love to share it 😀

Are you having challenges with a new concept for your business, or experimenting on new products?  Whatever it is, never give up.

Everybody makes mistakes, what is important is to learn from those mistakes.

Thomas Edison said: “I have not failed, I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

Here is a quote I heard from Patrick Snow.  He said “Test and Measure, Trial and Error“, then he repeated it for emphasis “Test and Measure, Trial and Error.”  I was inspired to draw this image to capture the idea.

Patrick Snow is an international best-selling author of the book Creating Your Own Destiny: How to Get Exactly What You Want Out of Life and Work.  He is also a publishing coach, internet entrepreneur and one of the featured talents at Speaker Match’s podcast.

My Review of The Sketchnote Handbook by Mike Rohde

My Review of The Sketchnote Handbook by Mike Rohde

Sketchnotes are small visual summaries, and sketchnotes are showing up EVERYWHERE!  I am so excited to see visual thinking with sketchnotes becoming mainstream.  Just Google it and see some of the rich visual content coming out of conferences, seminars, and presentations.  I first heard the term “sketchnote” by Mike Rohde, and he recently wrote a book about it called The Sketchnote Handbook (affiliate link).  I ordered the book as soon as it was released and I was so excited to get it.  When it arrived, I had to take a picture 😀

The book is beautiful.  Why?  It is soft to the touch with a matte coating, rounded corners, and thick pages like a real moleskin book.  This fully-illustrated handbook shows you the process of creating visual notes for better understanding and retention.

Mike reviews the foundations of drawing, typography, layouts and icons.  The book also showcases the works of other sketchnoters with their  tips and tricks.  When I saw the tips and different styles of other sketchnotes, I just fell in love with the book.

There is also a special edition video which includes 70 minutes of video tutorials with Mike demonstrating the step-by-step process he discussed in the Sketchnote Handbook.

I highly recommend checking out The Sketchnote Handbook. It’s definately one of my favorites.

The Golden Rule About Communication

The Golden Rule About Communication

Charlotte Beers, has been featured in Fortune magazine as one of the most powerful women in advertising.  During the Massachusetts Conference for Women, she shared some the secrets she learned in the business world.  For women to succeed, they must use powerful communication skills.  Check out the video.

In her new book “I’d Rather Be In Charge…” (affiliate link) she created a guide on how to clearly present yourself at work.  Charlotte  shared this “golden rule” of communication during the conference: It’s not what you say, it’s what they hear.

What Successful People Do Before Breakfast

What Successful People Do Before Breakfast

Most of the time, before we even get out of bed, we already make a mental list of the things we need to do and want to do.  But, how in the world can you get it all done.  How can you balance work, family and your own life goals with all the things on the to do list.

Laura Vanderkam, author of the series “What the Most Successful People Do,” has researched it and put it all in a book entitled, What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast: A Short Guide to Making Over Your Mornings — and Life (affiliate link).

I listened to the audio version of this book and I was so inspired when she started to paint a picture of what a great morning can look like.

Before I knew it, I was looking in my purse for my sketchbook (yes, I carry a mini-sketchbook with me at all times!) and drawing out what I was hearing.  Hope it inspires you.

Enjoy… this could be your typical morning!

An ExtraOrdinary Lesson from Zig Ziglar

An ExtraOrdinary Lesson from Zig Ziglar

I remember the first time I saw Zig Ziglar live.  It was many years ago at a conference in Washington, DC.  He was dynamic, funny and so personable.  So glad I was able to see him in person.  He will be missed, but never forgotten.

I created this drawing of one of my favorite quotes from Zig Ziglar about being extraordinary.

Social Media Strategies for Social Entrepreneurs

Social Media Strategies for Social Entrepreneurs

As a part of Social Media Week 2013 in Washington DC, Punchrock hosted a panel discussion about Social Media Strategies for the Social Entrepreneur.  Hmm… Activist or a Slactivist approach?  The panel shared how people. companies, and organizations are changing the world through social entrepreneurship and effectively using social media.

Wikipedia defines a Social Entrepreneur as someone who recognizes a social problem and uses entrepreneurial principles to organize, create, and manage a venture to make social change. A Social Entrepreneur acts as the change agent for society, seizing opportunities and improving systems, inventing new approaches and creating solutions to change society for the better.

Panelists included Sana Venjara, Bryan Lozano and Kalsoom Lakhani.

Check out the sketchnotes (visual summary) of what transpired during the discussion.  For a larger view, click the image to expand.
